How to do it:

Om actually sounds like AUMMMM

  1. To sound the first two syllables, open the mouth wide as if you want to take in the fullness of the universe. The sound, pronounced like a prolonged “awe” should start at the back of the throat. Stretch the sound until you feel the solar plexus and chest vibrate.

  2. Pursing lips together helps stretch out the next two syllables. The emission of U, pronounced like a prolonged “oo” should gently roll forward along the upper palate until you feel the throat start vibrating.

  3. The last syllable, M, is gradually muted to the deep silence, thus completing the perfect circle of Om.

  4. Let the silence drape over you before inhaling again.

  5. Repeat 3+ times

"Exhalation is an egoless state, I am not doing the Om, the Om is done through me."

Why do it:

OM is said to be the first sound heard at the creation of the universe. As we exhale the A-U-M, its vibration links us to the original source of creation. When each syllable is pronounced fully, you should feel the energy of the sound lifting from your pelvic floor all the way up through the crown of your head. The droning sound of the Om is said to unblock the throat chakra and fill the body with pulsating energy that simultaneously empowers and radiates tranquility.
