Taking Your Highs

An Evening Reflection ritual for Gratitude and Release

How to do it:

1. Reflect on your day and think of 3 -5 high points. The most positive, exciting things that happened in which you’re grateful for or energized by.

2. Think of 3-5 low points. Moments or events which caused the most frustration, anger, sadness, fear, etc.

3. When you get to the end of the exercise, close your eyes, and imagine yourself writing each low onto a piece of paper. You can have your hand writing onto the air for added embodiment.

4. When you’ve finished writing all of your lows on your imaginary piece of paper, visualize a fire burning in front of you, then reach that paper forward and release your lows into the fire so you don’t carry them forward.

This can be done alone or aloud with a partner. If with a partner, alternate 1 high, 1 low until reaching all of them.

Why do it:

This ritual allows us the opportunity to stop and integrate what happened in our day before moving on to the next one and forgetting the things that made it special. It also gives us an opportunity to release the lows so we may move into a new day without carrying extra weight.

When doing with a partner, it’s a great way to stay emotionally connected to the happenings of each other’s lives.
