Breathing into the Mundane

A Daily Breathing ritual for Presence

How to do it:

There are so many moments in a day that seem like mundane parts of life. While sitting at your desk, driving, waiting at a red light, washing dishes, scrolling social media or doing laundry, tune into your breath.

Where do you feel it in your body—your shoulders, your chest, your stomach?

1) Once you’ve focused in on your natural breath, begin to expand it. Try counting your inhales and exhales to make them even.

2) Inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds.

You can also work on expanding the breath to fill the entire chest cavity in all directions.

Why do it:

There is no limit to how nourishing, vital, and transformative conscientious breathing can be. We are always breathing, usually just shallowly and on autopilot. So why not bring in more presence and turn the breath into a mindful practice?

When to do it:

As much as you can
