How to do it:

  1. Take a photograph of yourself, and one for your ex.

If you don’t have physical photographs, find 2 physical objects or tarot cards, one representing you, and one representing them.

  2. Set the photographs of you and your ex on opposite sides of your altar.

  3. Lay a string between the two photos so it is connecting them.

  4. Touch the string and close your eyes.

  5. Visualize your ex standing right in front of you in a white room.

  6. Spend a few minutes letting yourself interact with your ex in any way you want. You can kiss, argue, cry, whisper to, or hug your ex.

This visualization is your time to say and do anything you want to your ex in a safe space.

  7. Stay connected to your intuition as you do this.

  8. When you feel complete, tell your ex good-bye and open your eyes.

  9. Take a pair of scissors and cut the string to complete the ritual.

Optional: You can either bury or burn the string, photos, or objects.

Why do it:

Every time we enter a relationship with anyone, we exchange energies and become attached to them through a kind of spiritual tether. These cords allow energy to flow between us, but sometimes they stay intact longer than they need to be. Cord cutting is a ritual that helps sever these cords so we can regain our energy and begin healing.

When to do it:

After a break up

How long it takes:

10-15 min

Materials needed:

Photographs, or 2 objects; 1 representing you, 1 representing them, a piece of string, scissors or a knife
